New 40k Club - The Topeka Radio Symphony Orchestra

My regular play group has fallen apart at my favorite game store. For years, the Sunday Morning Fight Club met (on Sundays) to mostly play games of Warhammer 40k, but many in the group have wandered away for other games or simply dropped out of the hobby.

I was heartbroken.

My community had left, or left me behind, but I was determined to keep playing, even if i could only manage a few tournament games.

This past summer at a tournament, I decided to not use the SMFC as my team,  and as a gag, I created the Topeka Radio Symphony Orchestra on Best Coast Pairings.

Why that name? I love classical music, I worked previously in broadcasting, I love listening to the radio, and it was the least like a Warhammer team name that I could come up with at the time. There are so many teams that have hard core team names that I thought an orchestra is about as counter-culture to a group of miniature wargamers as I could concoct.

Since the other geoup fell apart, I've stated getting regular games with some new fellows. They are already in a club and I didn't want to invite myself to their team and tank their scores so I felt a team of one wouldn't hurt anyone. Plus, I delighted in the irony of an "orchestra" just being a solo player. However, my good friend, Kyle saw my team on Best Coast Pairings and signed up for a tournament on the team. Yesterday, another friend, Jim joined and now our little group is a trio.

Because of that, I've created a logo for the club.

Topeka Radio Symphony Orchestra

Our bio on Best Coast, "Among the vast numbers of Warhammer and miniature wargaming clubs, the Topeka Radio Symphony is one of them."

I have no illusions that our club would ever win anything, but it's a good bit of whimsy. If anyone wants to join us, feel free to add the Topeka Radio Symphony Orchestra as your team - all are welcome!

I also saw online a player created a team with a similar theme- the Tennessee Valley Authority Intramural Shuffleboard Club. Another great name!

Salamanders Badab War Veteran

Primaris Marines are great sculpts, but they will never have the soul of the old hand-sculpted models.  The Badab War is my favorite battle in the 40k universe and its one of the reasons that the Salamanders are my favorite Space Marine chapter.  #miniaturepainting #paintingwarhammer #grimdark #warhammercommunity #salamanders #salamanders40k #28mm #spacemarines40k #oldhammer #badabwar #astartes #armageddon40k

Callidus Assassin

This is my newly painted Callidus assassin, Mary Poppin-yourbackfield. She scores points. I hate that I have to play one of these to stay competitive. Yar.

Bad News for Deathwing

The new Balance Data Slate was released today for Warhammer 40k 9th edition and my beloved Dark Angels Deathwing list took a beating.  If you don't have the codex, the fourth bullet point was the rule that gave Inner Circle infantry units, like Deathwing Terminators, Transhuman Physiology. Basically, the key feature that most players loved about the list.  Rest in peace, Deathwing, we hardly knew ye. Also, what a crappy way to write that rule?! Why not simply include a sentence that says, Inner Circle models do not benefit from transhuman without use of a strategem? I know 10th edition is supposed to be cleaner and easier to understand, but this does not bode well. I'm not really a loyal Dark Angels player (see what I did there?) so I'll just shift back to playing one of my other Marines armies or orks. I've been day dreaming about a Thunder Warriors army again and dug out some bits to work on conversions. I'm loving the idea of a Age of Stryfe White Scars/Star Hunt...
