New Snow Bases

I haven't been happy with how my goblin green bases on my retro Blood Angels look. I think they are too bland and I've been searching for another solution where I wouldn't have to completely rebase the entire army. I've always wanted an arctic themed army (winter GI Joe's were some of my favorites) so I've been testing some options and I think I've settled on this base as my favorite. I'll use wet mud to cover the green sand. Then apply a light coat of static grass and larger rocks, followed by a coat of Terrains Snow and a few Ice Sparkles. Normally, I'm a big fan of Vallejo or MIG products but the Vallejo snow looked like cottage cheese, I couldn't get my hands on MIG basing effects, and the powder bits from Woodland Scenics or Army Painter don't look good in the tubs so I didn't bother spending the cash to try them out.  Let me know what you think!  #miniaturepainting #miniaturebases

Mustering troops for Bolt Action

Recently, I've been working on my Bolt Action British early war "Tommies" and getting them ready for war. I'm very close to getting my models on the table for a game and I've been pouring over the rules. (Too many games leaves me with a bunch of mixed-up rule sets in my head...) When we ordered our armies, my pal Russ also put in an order for some MDF bases for us to use instead of trying to track down GW bases or use the flat style Warlord bases. The MDF bases are nice, light, and have a pleasant smell of burned wood from the laser cutting- not to mention inexpensive. Before I even took a model out of the package, I was concerned about the little "hump" the Warlord metal minis might produce from the model's base but I've been pleasantly surprised how little you notice after adding some rock, sand and other materials. The rough battlefield I'd like to put on my troops is a perfect camouflage to hide any raised areas or sharp edges. Af...

Secret Weapon Bases

Last week I ordered an army-sized lot of bases from Secret Weapon miniatures for my Chaos Daemon list and they arrived yesterday and I couldn't be more pleased! They are less expensive than Micro Art's bases and while a few bases had spurs of flash still left along the edges,it was nothing more than you'd find on a regular Games Workshop base. I couldn't make up my mind on which style of bases I wanted, so I just ended up mixing and matching between desert mesa and desert wasteland. Not having purchased any Secret Weapon materials before, I didn't want to blindly order a theme that might be filled with bubbles and flaws and then be forced to spend hours fixing imperfections on a complex design or base. Now that I'm familiar with the quality, I'm seriously considering ordering the Trenchworks or Flagstone sets for my White Scars. Tonight I sanded down most of the biker bases, a couple of others and green stuffed my Fateweaver model. Lucha Domo looks on in...
