40k Imperial Knight Commission

My buddy Gabe, commissioned me to paint up an Imperial Knight in the style of Legend of the Five Rings Dragon Clan style. Here's what I've done: The lighting is a little harsh, but I think you can make out the shading on the green. I originally tried painting scales using an airbrush and a piece of mesh, but it didn't really look good. I may have used too much paint, but I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. Gabe put him to good use as an ally for his Grey Knights in the last league at our FLGS and has decided to build a full Knight army. He's hired another local gamer to paint another Knight in another L5R clan and has asked me to paint his third Knight in the Crane clan colors.

League Results

The Winter Warhammer 40k League at my local game shop just wrapped up today and I walked away co-champion! The league counted painting scores as well as win/loss record into the final tally and my painting and generalship was good enough to tie for first place! It was an escalation league starting at 750 points and ending at 1,500. You could play two games a week and the missions, deployment type and other special rules varied each week. I just didn't have enough boots on the ground to hold objectives and earn the precious points. A couple of times I was tabled by the hoard armies - namely Orks and 'Nids. However, I did like the GKs domination of the "magic"/psychic phase but it wa...

Playtest Transylvania: Curses and Traitors

I was approached by the game creators to playtest an upcoming board game, "Transylvania: Curses & Traitors" at the Gatekeeper earlier this month. The co-creator drove up from Kansas City to show some of our local guys the game and get some feedback and I have to say, I was pretty impressed. It's a steampunk horror game where players try to solve the curse of Transylvania or be turned into a monster (at which point you try to eat the other players.) The game is in late stage development and finished artwork and game pieces are being added to the game at a regular pace. I'm not sure they really needed any of our suggestions for game play, but I think Brandon and I tagged teamed on a suggestion for a re-roll rule that they liked and Scott managed to find a loophole in discarding objects. However, we broke the curve on play time by clocking in at 120+ minutes when most games last less than an hour! Game play is solid. It's a tile building/exploring map game ...
