Last weekend I played in the Freestate Games Grand Tournament in Holton, Kansas. I have been practicing with a Space Marines Ultramarines list that features both Marneus Calgar and Roboute Guilliman as well as twin Whirlwinds, twin Predator Annihilators, and a cadre of my silver marines, the Rampant Lions. A very similar list beat up my Space Wolves at the Las Vegas Open and I hoped to duplicate that army’s success. My practice games gave me some victories but I wouldn’t consider it broken or game breaking, and my game play at the tournament bore that out; going 2-3. I must admit, that my two wins were against opponents who had worse dice than I think I’ve ever seen and demonstrated no real skill on my part. Here’s a brief recap.   The single best unit in every Space Marine army is the Infiltrator squad. The ability to block 12-inches (up to 24") of enemy deep strikes prevents untold amount of points from being scored by your opponent. My Infiltrators typically don't leave my deployment zone and just screen my home objective and backfield. Those pesky units that like to pop up within 3" and steal your home objective can't. Infiltrators have become a little pricey and are currently 100 points. Their guns are almost useless because they are heavy, but they come with a free helix gauntlet for a handy feel-no-pain. The doctor is in! I just stopped painting this Apothecary Biologis... I just wasn't enjoying myself. I just wanted to be done painting, so I called it quits. I like the sculpt, it's a fantastic model, but I just wasn't feeling it. Also, I feel like I'm cheating - I didn't put a chapter marking on him so he could be seconded to any of my four Space Marine armies. This is a test model for my new custom Space Marine chapter, the Rampant Lions. I'd like the idea of "space knights" and I want to lean into the imagery from Arthurian legend with more banners, flags, etc. I'll post more fluff about the chapter as I flush it out.  Honestly, I'd rather paint more Astral Claws but they were wiped out before Primaris marines were introduced and I don't want to break fluff just to play with the new models. Frankly, Primaris marines are mostly better choices as game pieces but it seems apocryphal to add the new models and I can't bring myself to do it. It's a fictional future, but damn it, there are rules!  I like the green, silver, and gold combination as a color scheme. I recently finished this Salamanders Assault Intercessor squad from my Hellbenders army. I just realized that one brother is missing his backpack. Despite that I'm pretty proud of these fellows. I feel like my paint skills are getting better.  The techmarine is going to be pissed about that missing gear though. 

  This may be one of my longest serving models, an oldhammer Salamanders Librarian. He's had his base upgraded to modern size and the occasional touch up.  I painted this guy ages ago and it's a little cringe-worthy to post online but I think it's nice to use a watermark to see how far I've processed in my painting. I'm resisting the urge to strip him and try again.

Here is a repaint/color test for my Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike for my custom shield host (that has yet to be named.) This model frustrated me because I thought it was pretty well painted, even for a test model, but when I zoomed in to the tiny details, it's a train wreck.
