Tournament Report

I took the Ultramarines version of my homebrew chapter of Space Marines, the Rampant Lions, to an RTT this past weekend. I've been playing my orks a lot lately, and whilst I was a little rusty, I felt like it was my most competitive army to beat the, 'meta.' You can't go wrong with Guilliman and Marneus, right?

My first game was against an Imperial Knights player who brought the net-list Knights army. I fared pretty well until turn 4 when the wheels fell off but I felt like I had played decently.. except that I was playing all of my lascannons as strength 9, not strength 12. I should of been wounding on 2s most of the time and I didn't realize that until the next game. I've been playing so long that lascannon strength was ingrained at the lower level and I felt like a fool. Oy.

Also, I wished my opponent good luck before the game and he didn't say anything back. I thought that was weird and for some reason, that really chapped my hide. What kind of try-hard doesn't wish good luck in return?

In round 2, my dice went nuclear against my friend Quinton's Blood Angels. I couldn't fail to wound. I couldn't fail charges. I was unstoppable. Quinton's dice had the opposite luck and I tried to be a good sport and play off his bad game as simply bad luck but he left the tourney after that round. Yeesh. I always joke that I'm not a good player and I only accidently win games, but I did my best to try and make it as much fun for him as I could. Quinton and I play often enough that I don't think it hurt our friendship or anything, but sometimes winning doesn't feel good.

Round 3 was against a player I faced before at a GT, Kyle and this time he brought his Imperial Agents army. I've never played against an Imperial Agents army before, I honestly didn't think anyone would ever go to the trouble. I had to go first and found myself on the backfoot for the rest of the game, trying to knock his hoard off objectives. It came down to the last turn and was really close but the Agents got the better of me. Kyle did say he really enjoyed playing me in our past game and that he enjoyed this game just as much. Me too, Kyle, but I'm coming after you next time!

Salamanders Badab War Veteran

Primaris Marines are great sculpts, but they will never have the soul of the old hand-sculpted models.  The Badab War is my favorite battle in the 40k universe and its one of the reasons that the Salamanders are my favorite Space Marine chapter.  #miniaturepainting #paintingwarhammer #grimdark #warhammercommunity #salamanders #salamanders40k #28mm #spacemarines40k #oldhammer #badabwar #astartes #armageddon40k

Bad News for Deathwing

The new Balance Data Slate was released today for Warhammer 40k 9th edition and my beloved Dark Angels Deathwing list took a beating.  If you don't have the codex, the fourth bullet point was the rule that gave Inner Circle infantry units, like Deathwing Terminators, Transhuman Physiology. Basically, the key feature that most players loved about the list.  Rest in peace, Deathwing, we hardly knew ye. Also, what a crappy way to write that rule?! Why not simply include a sentence that says, Inner Circle models do not benefit from transhuman without use of a strategem? I know 10th edition is supposed to be cleaner and easier to understand, but this does not bode well. I'm not really a loyal Dark Angels player (see what I did there?) so I'll just shift back to playing one of my other Marines armies or orks. I've been day dreaming about a Thunder Warriors army again and dug out some bits to work on conversions. I'm loving the idea of a Age of Stryfe White Scars/Star Hunt...

Callidus Assassin

This is my newly painted Callidus assassin, Mary Poppin-yourbackfield. She scores points. I hate that I have to play one of these to stay competitive. Yar.
