New Orks ready for Waaaagh!

Have you ever met an unhappy Ork player? I just finished repainting these three boyz and got them on the tabletop. I've been burned out on the 40k tournament scene, so I dug out my Deathskulls and got in some games with my usual gaming group, The Sunday Morning Fight Club. Man, Orks are so much fun to play!

Battletech Mercinaries Kickstarter

Catalyst Games Lab has recently launched their new Kickstarter for BattleTech: Mercenaries and is smashing those stretch goals like a PPC through a Dodge Dart. As of this writing, Catalyst needed $50,000 to fund the project but with 23 days left in the campaign, they have reached more than $4.5 million! That’s a lot of C-bills.   I jumped in at the Recruit level, but I’ll likely buy a lot of the add-ons when I finally check out. Unlike a lot of other Kickstarters I’ve backed, this campaign has added a ton of cool swag to the stretch goals and it really is an incentive for more people to back the project. There are new maps, buttons, patches, “Salvage Boxes” (blind buy boxes of Mechs), challenge coins, novels, a metric $#!+ ton of new mechs and vehicles, t-shirts, comics… and there are tons of options within these choices to pick your favorite faction, clan, or merc group. Take my paycheck. All of it. Man, it’s a good time to be a BattleTech fan. Link to KS

Winter's SEO Leaves Deployment Zone

In an emotional video posted today, Winters SEO announced that he's leaving Deployment Zone TV. Link to the YouTubes. You can watch his explanation video above and listen to the hobby LEGEND of LEGENDS explain it for himself, but if I can briefly summarize, running a business is hard and the best way forward for Jamie is to go solo. He'll keep producing content for YouTube subscribers and has four tiers of memberships available. I've been a subscriber for Winters for a long time, even before he showed his face or even showed his dice rolls, and I immediately signed up for tier 3 immediately. He's my favorite YouTuber by a mile and I really hope he does well and this is a good move for him. As a former small business owner, I certainly understand where he's coming from and how physically and emotionally draining running a business is and I'm glad I'm out.  Good luck, Winters, you have my sword!

2022 ITC Ranking

I didn't win any 40k tournaments this year, but I did fairly well grinding it out with lots of 4-2 or 5-2 records. However,  to my surprise, I found I had a decent ITC score this year when the results finally dropped today!  Ranks: Global: 2065 USA: 1035 Dark Angels Globe: 40 Dark Angels USA: 22 What?! Is ITC broken? I'm absolutely thrilled though!

LVO 2023 Recap

The 2023 Las Vegas Open is over for me. I finished with a disappointing record of 2-3-1 and placed 576th with 473 points. My tie and two of the losses were very close and I scored well in all but two of my games so I feel a little better about my performance. There's a lot to love in giant events like the LVO. You can meet a lot of famous players, see new games, get great tips from pro painters and hobbyists, make new friends, play out of your usual pool of gamers, and generally have a great time. I got to meet a couple of people I follow on YouTube and Instagram and I made a few new friends too. That's really the best part of the tournament. However, there are a few downsides too and areas that could be improved. First, Frontline puts on a great show. They obviously do a ton of work to pull something this large off. However, I am disappointed that it's being run in Warzone Nephilim and not Arks of Omen. I think AoO is a much more level playing field and the balance patches...

The Las Vegas Open 2023!

My bags are packed. My army is painted, based, and battle ready. My hotel reservation is confirmed. My flight is currently on time. I’m ready for the Warhammer 40k Championships at the Las Vegas Open! This will mark my third trip to Sin City to play in the LVO, although one trip was cancelled due to Covid, and I think this may be my best shot to finish in the top 100. My main goal was to finish the weekend, including the 40k Championship and the Sunday RTT, with a winning record – so Top 100 may be optimistic, but a boy can dream. My Dark Angels Deathwing army is very finely tuned and I feel really comfortable with commanding it to victory. I’ve faced all of the boogey-man lists and I have a game plan for most of the them. The biggest hurdle is that my army can’t score 100 points and that’s a big problem. With Space Marine secondaries being so hard to score, I usually cap out around 85-90 points, with an occasional 90+ point game, so I need a bit of luck of the draw to avoid these thre...

Goblin Mode

My heart broke when the Old World was destroyed and my 6-7 Warhammer Fantasy Battles armies haven't seen the tabletop since. Early Sigmar rules (like having a big mustache or doing a silly dance) and skirmish games didn't interest me. However, a few members of my gaming club want a break from 40k, so we might play AoS. To that end, I put a goblin on a round base. Orks and Goblins are one of the few WHFB armies that didn't get Squatted and I can repurpose them into a Sigmar faction.
