Flying Monkey GT Results

At the end of September, my buddy Kyle made and I made a quick trip to Wichita, Kansas for the Flying Monkey Warhammer 40k Grand Tournament. I brought my Space Wolves "wolf jail" list and Kyle brought his Custodes.

Wolf jail

The tourney was held in a massive hall in an even more massive convention center. It was fairly nice and the tables were mostly spread out enough to move around and not bump butts with the chap at the table behind you. There weren't any support tables for your gear but it was much nicer than the LVO end-to-end layout.

Day one didn't go well for me... I was thumped hard by a World Eaters player. We only made it through the top of turn 3 in the 2.5 hours and talked out the rest of my turn 3. I hadn't had many problems reaching turn 5 in my games before so I'm not sure who or what was eating the clock.

Round 2 I played solid Templars army but I could not make a 4+ save when it counted. It was a big loss for me.

My third game was against an Ultramarines Marines player and was probably my closest game. We were both suffering heavy casualties but I squeaked out a tiny victory. I had a unit of terminators charge his deathstar with Marnius, Apothecary and full-sized aggressors and killed them to a wound. He had popped fight on death and slaughtered all but two termies and the chaplain!

My games on the second day went much better for me.  I won against Blood Angels Genestealer Cult, and the Chaos Renegade Raiders in very close, and fun games. I left with a 4-2 record and 34th place out of 113 players.

My friend Kyle ended up 2-4, and was just 3 points away from finishing with a 4-2 record as as well. But he learned quite a bit from his losses and was bitten by the tournament bug. To that end, we bought LVO 2025n tickets!

Now we will be grinding and practicing for the big showdown in the desert!

Salamanders Badab War Veteran

Primaris Marines are great sculpts, but they will never have the soul of the old hand-sculpted models.  The Badab War is my favorite battle in the 40k universe and its one of the reasons that the Salamanders are my favorite Space Marine chapter.  #miniaturepainting #paintingwarhammer #grimdark #warhammercommunity #salamanders #salamanders40k #28mm #spacemarines40k #oldhammer #badabwar #astartes #armageddon40k

Bad News for Deathwing

The new Balance Data Slate was released today for Warhammer 40k 9th edition and my beloved Dark Angels Deathwing list took a beating.  If you don't have the codex, the fourth bullet point was the rule that gave Inner Circle infantry units, like Deathwing Terminators, Transhuman Physiology. Basically, the key feature that most players loved about the list.  Rest in peace, Deathwing, we hardly knew ye. Also, what a crappy way to write that rule?! Why not simply include a sentence that says, Inner Circle models do not benefit from transhuman without use of a strategem? I know 10th edition is supposed to be cleaner and easier to understand, but this does not bode well. I'm not really a loyal Dark Angels player (see what I did there?) so I'll just shift back to playing one of my other Marines armies or orks. I've been day dreaming about a Thunder Warriors army again and dug out some bits to work on conversions. I'm loving the idea of a Age of Stryfe White Scars/Star Hunt...

Callidus Assassin

This is my newly painted Callidus assassin, Mary Poppin-yourbackfield. She scores points. I hate that I have to play one of these to stay competitive. Yar.
