Space Wolves Murderfang Conversion

I made a simple conversion for my Murderfang dreadnought. It's not very complicated, but I like it more than the stock head.  My dreadnought only army from 5th editing is updated and almost finished!  #warhammer40k #spacewolves40k #spacewolves #new40k #conversion #murderfang

Tech Priest Conversion

This is my new tech priest engineseer converted from Blackstone Fortress' Taddeus the Purifier. His pistol has yet to be fired. He will likely join my Forgeworld, The Pilgrims of Erudition or be seconded to my Astra Millitarum force. #warhammer40k #paintingwarhammer #grimdark #blackstonefortress #techpriest #admech #astramilitarum #conversion #mechanicus #gamesworkshop #inquisition #inq28 #28mmminiatures

Picture this!

The Flesh Tearer marines are ambushed from the shadows by Death Skull Ork boyz! It's been a while since I've updated this blog but I plan to change that soon. Very soon. I decided a few months ago that I was going to box up my armies and only focus on painting and playing my Orks. While I didn't really box very much up, I did get some paint on a big hand full of boyz and lootas. Then the new Space Marines codex dropped. Wow! I was to dig my White Scars out of cold storage and begin painting and re-painting them for my updated list. Then I saw a cool batrep from Skardecast and painted on a few of my Dark Eldar. Then I found some Hellblasters I started months ago for my Salamanders and I thought their new codex will drop soon so I better finish those off... Now my desk is a big ol' pile of minis from various armies and I don't feel like I'm completing anything. Focus dropped. Enthusiasm waned. I needed some motivation and while looking up some paintin...

Tech Priest Dominus WIP

My Adeptus Mechanicus Tech Preist Dominus conversion is almost ready. I wanted to build M.O.D.O.K. (Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing) from Marvel Comics because he's one of my favorite villains. Tinkering around with some bits I had, I eventually transformed the idea into more of a dark mechanicum tech priest with tentacles in a dreadnought hull. I've got him almost ready for the LVO; just some cleanup and deepening of shadows. Let me know what you think!

Ad Mech Magos WIP

I'm working on a new Magus for my Cult Mechanicus/Ad Mech/Mechanicum. After reading more of the Black Library fluff, it's obvious the Mechanicum/Machanicus are some twisted folks. While I didn't want to make my Magos "dark" mechanium, I think there is a lot of opportunity for conversions to make each Ad Mech army unique and I want my general to stand out. One of my favorite comic book villains is MODOK. A giant head floating on a cyborg body with mental powers and traditional weapons built into his "golden throne." I couldn't figure out how to make a knock-off model out of GW bits, but it did give me a jumping off point by inspiring me to use the dreadnought hull as a body.

Themed armies in 40k

I've always been a big fan of painting models exactly like codex, army book, fluff, and/or real life historical markings and schemes. I've also been a big fan of, "they're your dolls, painting 'em however you want." The third choice, however, it to paint them like something else. I've thought long and hard about painting a Cadian Imperial Guard army up like GI Joe and Cobra. The Cobra half would be a blob squad with a couple of characters like Destro, Cobra Commander, and the Baroness. The Joe half would be veteran squads with heavily converted models to make up all of the "good guys." Duke, Flint, Gung Ho, Snake Eyes, and Beachhead were my favorites. Tunnel Rat too. I've seen a couple of others before, but I really like the look of this guy's Cobra army: Cobra Themed GI Joe - Imperial Guard Army Other cool models I've seen have been the Gundam Tau: A whole bunch of Avengers:

Eldar Exodites

Combining these kits to make a single Eldar Exodite Wave Serpent could be my most creative modeling idea ever, or it could be my most expensive mistake... But I love the idea of having Wood Elar riding around on dinosaurs, so it's worth the risk. I'll post my results later.

New Objective Markers!

Here are some homemade objective markers I made for 40k (or any other mini game I happen to be playing.) I found mosaic glass tiles at Michael's craft store and thought they would make awesome obelisk tokens in the style of 2001: A Space Odyssey. I shouldn't say, "homemade" because  I simply glued them to 40mm Games Workshop bases and added a little bit of flock. It's a simple idea and I think they look great. A few of them even have a bit of metallic sheen. The "2001" theme pretty much gives me license to sci-fi up any game. They could be energy portals, power stones, warp stones that randomly happen to rectangular-cubes, fuel cells, or just mysterious obelisks that appear to confound those who find them.

Flesh Hounds and Instant Mold

As I was putting together my daemon army, I picked up some second-hand Chaos Flesh Hounds online. I thought they were a really good deal but when my package arrived, the models turned out to plain chaos hounds. The Games Workshop Flesh Hounds are now up to about $10 a figure and buying blindly off the Internet to save some cash turned out to cost me more in the end. Then, on CoolMiniorNot.com, I saw their review of Instant Mold. It's a flexible, reusable molding material that sets in hot water and can be infinitely reused to create molds of small metal and plastic parts. I thought this might just be the ticket to making some "collars" to turn my dogs into Flesh Hounds. Following instructions, I made mold of an extra collar (or fins) from an actual Flesh Hound model. After letting it cool, it looked like I had a nice mold to make a few extra fins. I rolled out some Green Stuff into a little ball and pressed it into my fin mold and viola! As you can ...
